Hey sweet rock lickers, Date is 24-26th March 2017. We will meet at Monash University Clayton Campus at 9am on the 24th and drive together for ~4 hours to Cape Conran returning to Monash on the 26th in the evening. Here is your New Years dose of geological exploration :D This one will be exploring sedimentology, metamorphism *AND* of course, structure ;) This is a ~2.5 day field trip which will be essentially one big ass mapping project along a small coastal outcrop characterizing the Kuark structural zone of the Lachlan Fold Belt. If time permits, we'll explore other regions away from the coast such as the Cann Cann Granitoids and their deformation along a shear zone (ooooo economic geology thyme) We will be staying at the Banksia Bluff Camping Grounds on simple tenting grounds so please bring camping gear. Please RSVP by March 1 so I can arrange accommodation. This trip will cost $40 to cover for the campsite and teaching materials. What to expect: -Beautiful beaches -Martin getting confused with tide times -Martin getting confused -Interesting structural, metamorphic, igneous and sedimentological relationships -Mapping practice What to bring: -Hat and Sunscreen* -Lots of water* -Personal first aid kit -Compass and hand lens* -A3 Clipboard and mapping equipment* -Stationery* -Some food and snacks and some money* -A tent + camping gear**** I will provide mylar mapping paper and basemaps and field guides but everything else on the what to bring list is a MUST HAVE.
