Hi my beautiful rock sniffers! As promised, here is one of many fieldtrips to be organised by me. 2015 has been a crazy year for me so i needed some time to deflate in December. Please forgive my absence and the untimely flooding of Lake Glenmaggie. Since Lake Glenmaggie is being a bit of a pain in the arse, we'll be heading off to Lerderberg Gorge instead until Lake Glenmaggie is ready. Here, we'll explore some beautiful gorges made of siciliclastic sequences which have been folded and deformed over primarily one generation of orogeny. This is a ONE DAY field trip and so camping equipment is not necessary. Things to bring: -Sunscreen -Water -Food/snacks -Compass -Clipboard -Hand lens -Field notebook (or anything you can write on) + other writing utensils I will be going over STEREONETS in preparation for those doing ESC3201 -Deformation of the Crust as well as those who wish to employ the technique when we go to Lake Glenmaggie.
To get there: From Melbourne travel along the M8 (Western Hwy) towards Ballarat for ~55km. Take the Gisbourne Rd. exit off the Hwy towards Gisbourne. At the Darley roundabout, take the 2nd exit towards Gisbourne still. Soon after crossing the Lerderderg River bridge, there is a Y-intersection with a sign to Lerderderg Gorge on the left fork. Take this road to the gorge. At the Camerons Rd. intersection, keep left again with the sign to the gorge. The road will end abruptly but there is room for parking. Proceed upstream along the track on the east side of the river 50m from the carpark. This will be Stop One.
